DOTT Services, one of the leading local
construction companies, is to invest $4m (about sh8.6b) in a stone
quarry at Semutto in Luweero, company officials have said.
Krishna Devarao, the project manager, said the
quarry was aimed at boosting the construction sector, adding that in
most instances, projects delay because of failure to get construction
materials on time.
They are setting up a modern
stone quarry with a
capacity to crush up to 400 tonnes of stones per hour and an asphalt
batch mix plant with a capacity of producing 120 tonnes of pre-mixed
materials for the road sector, Devarao told reporters during a tour of
the quarry recently.
He said the quarry, which is on an 80-acre piece
of land, would employ over 200 people directly and indirectly. He also
said they had adopted safety measures to protect communities in the
surrounding areas, surrounding the quarry. He said that they have put
up a modern first aid center to cater for any emergencies that many
arise during the operations.
He said that this first-aid center will also serve
the local communities who have always had free access to it. Krishna
said they have also upgraded a 4.2km road at a cost of shs150m, to
access the quarry and serves the community, adding that they had also
built boreholes for quarry staff and the community.
In the near future a power line will also be brought to the quarry, he said.
